THE COMMUNITY EXCHANGE

Less searching. More finding.

The Community Exchange is a developing UK-wide directory and knowledge library designed to help people discover support, services, activities, training, volunteering and useful resources.

WHY IT MATTERS

Finding help shouldn’t be a detective story.

Useful support exists, but the details can be scattered across websites, social media, leaflets and word of mouth. People shouldn’t have to know which organisation to search for before they can find the help or activity that’s right for them.

And digital access isn’t universal: Good Things Foundation’s Digital Nation 2026 estimated that 2.2 million UK adults were completely offline. That is why the proposed resource must also be useful to community workers, family members and others helping someone search. A website alone cannot remove digital exclusion. Read the research.

FROM IDEAS TO ACTION

One place to start. Many ways forward.

The proposed platform will organise information by place and topic, with useful filters and search that can respond to everyday questions. It is designed for the public without requiring registration, with content review and local knowledge supporting accuracy as it develops. These are planned features, not a claim that the service has launched.

01

Gather what’s useful

Bring together details of organisations, activities, training, support and opportunities.

02

Search like a person

Help users narrow results by area, audience, accessibility and the kind of help or activity they need.

03

Keep checking

Use review, updates and local input to reduce outdated or duplicated information.

THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE

We want people to find relevant information more easily and organisations to be more visible. Once live, useful measures will include information accuracy, searches that lead to an onward action and feedback from the people using the resource.

GET INVOLVED

Know something worth sharing?

We’d welcome conversations with organisations, local information specialists and potential collaborators who could help make this resource useful, accurate and accessible. The platform is still in development.
